The
History of the Principality of Monaco and the city of
MONTE-CARLO
Nestled along the Southeast border of the tip of France,
where its sandy beaches touch the Mediterranean Sea,

Principality of Monaco.
The
western border of Italy is just a few kilometers away to
the East. In fact, the Grimaldi family, who originally

from Northern Italy to gain power over Monaco more than
700 years ago, has been the ruling family since the year
1297. This is a longer continuous time span than Prince
Charles and the Royal Family of Great Britain have
controlled the English throne. Here, French is the
official language, but Italian, English and Spanish are
commonly spoken. The beautiful and mild climate of
Monaco boasts of over 300 days of sunshine per year.
Monaco only contains five cities, known as “districts”.
The most famous and popular district is the city of
MONTE-CARLO. Created in 1866 in honor of Prince Charles
(Grimaldi) III, Monte-Carlo is the premiere
International playground of the rich and famous.
